Rainforest Lodge: listening answers and explanations
Jody, a recreation officer, welcomes a group of guests to Rainforest Lodge. Jody explains what the lodge has and doesn't have, what happens on arrival, the tours on offer, what to wear in the wet season, and what to be careful of in the forest.
In order: lodge facilities and arrival (11-12), the daytime tours and the evening tour (13-15), then the advice section, clothes first (16-18) and warnings last (19-20). The signpost 'You've chosen to visit the rainforest in March' starts the advice.

Short answers (NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS)
Questions 16-20
How to attack this block: Two lists that can be written in any order: three items of clothing, then two dangers. The clothing advice comes with reasons (slippery ground, protecting your legs), and the warnings come after 'There's no need to be nervous'.
Question 16
Answer: walking bootsWhen Jody warns that things get slippery
Also accepted: boots / socks / long trousers / trousers
Name one item of clothing Jody recommends.
if you didn't bring any walking boots I'd advise you to hire some from the office
Question says → You hear
items of clothingwalking boots
Why: Jody recommends walking boots because the ground is wet and slippery. Boots, long trousers and socks can go in any order in 16-18.
The trap: Shorts are mentioned, but as what not to wear.
Question 17
Answer: walking bootsStraight after the walking boots
Also accepted: boots / socks / long trousers / trousers
Name a second item of clothing Jody recommends.
You'll also be much better off in long trousers rather than shorts because they will give your legs more protection
Question says → You hear
items of clothingmuch better off in long trousers
Why: Long trousers protect your legs, so they're recommended. 'Trousers' alone is also accepted.
The trap: Shorts: 'rather than shorts' means don't wear them.
Question 18
Answer: walking bootsEnd of the same sentence as the trousers
Also accepted: boots / socks / long trousers / trousers
Name the third item of clothing Jody recommends.
and socks are a good idea too
Question says → You hear
items of clothingsocks are a good idea too
Why: Socks are 'a good idea too', the third item.
The trap: Missing it because it's short and comes at the end of a long sentence.
Question 19
Answer: venomous snakesAfter 'There's no need to be nervous of the rainforest'
Also accepted: poisonous snakes / snakes / plants / certain plants / some plants
Name one thing in the rainforest Jody warns about.
There are some venomous snakes to beware of, but really they're much more frightened of you than you are of them.
Question says → You hear
give a warning aboutsome venomous snakes to beware of
Why: 'Beware of' is a warning, and it's about venomous snakes. Snakes and plants can go in either order in 19-20.
The trap: 'Most of the animals and wildlife are gentle and harmless', so animals in general aren't the warning.
Question 20
Answer: venomous snakesWhen Jody says 'The other thing is'
Also accepted: poisonous snakes / snakes / plants / certain plants / some plants
Name the second thing Jody warns about.
The other thing is that certain plants can cause irritation if you touch them with bare skin.
Question says → You hear
give a warning aboutcertain plants can cause irritation
Why: Certain plants can irritate your skin. 'Plants' or 'certain plants' is the answer.
The trap: 'Bare skin' and 'irritation' are what the plants cause, not the thing to watch out for.
Guests are told about the restaurant and luggage, but someone else carries the bags, and dinner is 'in about an hour or so'. The only true option is waiting an hour for dinner, C.
Socks are easy to miss because they come last, tacked onto the end of the sentence about trousers: 'and socks are a good idea too'.
