DELE Practice Test Online: Full A1, A2 and B1 Mock Exams

The same four papers as the real thing, in the same order, on the same clock. There are 90 mock exams in total: 30 at A1, 30 at A2 and 30 at B1, so you won't run out of fresh papers halfway through your prep.

Reading and Listening are marked against the answer key, so you see what you got wrong straight away. Writing and Speaking are where self-study usually stalls, because you can't mark your own essay. Those are scored for you, with the reasons behind every mark.

Your answers are scored against the four things DELE examiners look for: task achievement (adecuación), coherence (coherencia), grammar (corrección) and vocabulary range (alcance). For Writing, that includes whether you covered every point the task asked for and stayed inside the word range.

For Speaking, you record your answers and they're transcribed with Spanish speech recognition, then scored. Every piece of feedback is written in English and quotes your Spanish with the fix. "Es importante que la gente come bien" becomes "es importante que la gente coma bien", because that expression takes the subjunctive.

A1 is about the basics done right. In Writing you fill in a form and write a short message of around 30 to 40 words. In Speaking you introduce yourself, talk briefly about a topic you prepared, then answer the examiner's questions. Short, but every mistake is visible, so practise until the simple sentences are automatic.

A2 asks you to handle everyday situations. The two Writing tasks are a reply to a message (60 to 70 words) and a short text (70 to 80 words). Speaking has a prepared talk, a photo description and a role-play dialogue. The past tenses are where most A2 candidates lose marks, so watch them.

B1 is where the exam starts asking for opinions. Writing is an email of 100 to 120 words plus a longer text of 130 to 150 words where you pick one of two options. Speaking has four tasks: a monologue, a conversation about it, a photo description and a discussion based on a survey. Expect to be marked on the subjunctive after phrases like "espero que" and "es importante que".

Look at your two groups, not the total. Reading and Writing form one group, Listening and Speaking the other, and you need at least 30 of 50 points in each. A great Reading score can cover a shaky Writing, but it can't help your Speaking.

Then pick one thing to fix before the next mock. Not "get better at Spanish" but something you can drill: ser versus estar, the preterite versus the imperfect, or answering every point in the Writing task. Practise it for a week, then sit another mock and check it moved.
