IELTS Speaking Part 1: Advertisements
The question
What kinds of advertisements do you watch?
Where can you see advertisements?
Have you ever bought something because of its advertisements?
Do you watch advertisements from beginning to end?
How to answer it
The third question is the only one with a story in it, so give it a real purchase — the thing you bought after seeing it too many times, and whether it was worth it. The other three are short by design. "Where can you see advertisements" is a listing question and lists are dull; make it an observation instead, about how ads have moved from billboards to the middle of everything you were already watching.

- Useful lexis here is free: skip after five seconds, targeted, sponsored post, product placement, ad-free subscription.
- The last question invites a confession — almost nobody watches an ad to the end, and saying so with a reason beats a polite half-yes.
These are candidate recalls. These are questions reported by test-takers after their exams, not official or leaked IELTS material. Wording varies by test version, location and memory. Use them for timed practice — never as a prediction of what you will be asked.
