How tennis rackets have changed: reading answers and analysis
The full answer key for Cambridge IELTS 19 Test 1 Passage 1, with the question type for each block and notes on why the answers fall where they do.
Questions 1-13 · 13 marks · 2 question blocks
Questions 1-7
Five of the seven are FALSE or NOT GIVEN, which is the usual trap: candidates who half-recognise a name or a date mark TRUE. Treat NOT GIVEN as the default until you can point at the sentence that settles the claim, and remember that a statement contradicted only in degree (most versus some) is still FALSE.
| Question | Answer | Also accepted |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | FALSE | — |
| 2 | FALSE | — |
| 3 | NOT GIVEN | — |
| 4 | FALSE | — |
| 5 | NOT GIVEN | — |
| 6 | TRUE | — |
| 7 | TRUE | — |
Questions 8-13
Every answer is a single common noun lifted straight from the passage, so no paraphrasing is allowed. Question 11 is the only one with two accepted forms, which means if your word is a synonym of anything else in this block it is wrong by definition. Check the spelling too: a correct idea spelled wrong scores zero.
